Cardboard Bike by Annie Lee

In 2008, the BBC did a report on a new type of bicycle. A cardboard bicycle. I know what you’re thinking, what happens when it rains? This is a question that the creator, Phil Bridge is asked all the time, but the cardboard itself is waterproofed at the point of manufacture, so by the time it’s recycled to be made into the bike, the waterproofing isn’t an issue.

Another question you might be thinking about is, “how can this bicycle support my weight?” but the frame is made from hexacomb cardboard, which is used for industrial purposes, it’s very strong and the structure itself also means it won’t go soggy in the rain.

As you can probably guess, this bike isn’t the best for mountain biking or professional cycling, but it only costs £15, so it’s also less susceptible to thieves. It will last for roughly 6 months if you’re going to use it every day, which makes it perfect for a cheap easy, healthy and eco friendly way to get to work.
