reduce, re-use, recycle / re-use

Weird and cool things made from bottles by Emily Mitchell

As the world is encouraged to recycle and re-use, people are becoming more and more inventive with what they re-use/recycle and what they make with it. Making buildings out of reclaimed material isn’t exactly unheard of, but in Thailand’s Sisaket province, Buddhist monks have created the Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew temple out of a million waste bottles collected from nearby settlements. Though bottle structures are not uncommon, this impressive eco-structure has definitely risen to a higher level than your average sculpture and is definitely worth the hard work put into building it.

Though bottle buildings might sound a bit eccentric (Or should I say eco-centric) the Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew temple isn’t the only one of its kind. Located in Simi Valley, California Grandma Prisbrey’s village was started by Mrs. Prisbrey in 1955 when she was 62 years old. Over a million bottles make up the 33 structures that house her various collections of items including pencils and dolls. She made daily trips to the dump to collect the bottles, becoming an inadvertent advocate for waste diversion.Currently, the Preserve Bottle Village Committee (with a staff of two) works to preserve the little glass town.
